Pilates strengthens the muscles that support the spine (the neck, shoulders, abs, hips and thighs) to bring balance into the body. Most body aches and pains are due to muscular imbalance. Pilates helps to realign the spine in order to decrease tension, increase flexibility, and strengthen the body from the inside out. All of us need to strengthen our core (muscles that stabilize and support our spine). Core strength is an essential part of maintaining our posture, our balance, functional movement and a healthy pliable body. Our clients include athletes, children, adults with body aches, bulging discs and other conditions of the spine. We are often referred to patients who have completed physical therapy sessions and need a strengthening body workout. Pilates is a perfect workout for all walks of life."It's the most efficient form of exercise because you are building strength and flexibility at the same time, as opposed to taking a strength-training class and a stretch class," says president of Pilates Mind Body Institute, Joan Breibart. Pilates reformer training is available at Brenda Athletic Clubs for one on one private sessions as well as group reformer training sessions. |
